Books and other food I love

I LOVE books.

All books.  I do not discriminate.

I have found that reading makes me less of the good mommy I would like to be so I have curtailed some of my reading.

I try to only read books I can start on a Monday and finish before the weekend.

Saturday reading has meant that I am very annoyed that my children keep interrupting me with their trivial questions and problems (mommy I am bored, mommy I am hungry, Mommy my leg is broken, that sort of thing.)

So now I try to stick to the weeknight reading.  Or, sadly, no reading.

I have been enjoying some series books lately.

And I have fallen into the vampire genre, quite innocently I assure you.  Lately, I have been absorbing the books in a series.  I love being able to follow along for several books.  It makes me happy.

Here is a short list of the ones I’ve read:

The Vampire Academy – A newish twist on vampires.  There are good ones, bad ones, and guardians of the good ones.  The main character is one of the guardians.  This one is technically “young adult fiction” but the female lead kicks ass and takes names.  I didn’t really get into this series until the 2nd book and now I can’t wait until the next (and last) book prints in December.

Moon Called A Mercy Thompson book – This one is more about werewolves and other paranormal folks than vamps.  This is adult literature and the female lead kicks ass and takes names (see a trend).  I didn’t really get into this series until the 3rd book.  I read 5 books in a week.

The Black Dagger Brotherhood.  Not really into this series yet.  Just started on the second.  Hot sex scenes, if you’re into that.  Over all I will need to report back.

Twilight.  Yeah well.  Not really my favorite.  The last book was SO disapointing I can’t remember if I liked the first two.

The Darkest Power series.  Four book series but at the end it’s not over.  The main character is a young woman who is a crazy strong necromancer.  Not one of my favorites.  The fact that she ended the series but still made it clear that the series will continue after the 4th book didn’t do much except annoy me.  Another young adult serie (aka no hot sex scenes).

True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse.  I liked these books at first.  Now the fact that all Sookie does is sit around waiting to be saved by some strong male (be he vamp or were) annoys me.  I like the show because they gave her some sort of power but I don’t like the show because it doesn’t remain true to the book.  Contrary I know.

If you are into  hot sex scenes you should check out Laurell Hamilton.  But start early in the series or you’ll be dropped directly into hard core multiple partner sex scenes.  I read one and a half of her books.  Too many bodies at the party for me.  And I found them short on story and looooong on sex.

So there you have it, a timely review of books that you probably won’t  want to read.  But I enjoyed them, for the most part.

They were like appetizers.

Very good, but with no real nutritional value.

And I ate them quickly and didn’t feel too full afterward.

I often only order apps.

If I could save time in a bottle

The summer flew by.

Literally, flew.

And it’s fall and while I welcome the Fall with it’s cooler weather and changing colors, I feel as though I missed summer all together.

We spent a week at the shore.

In a house with the four of us and both sets of Grands.

It was fine.  It was fun.  It was good.

I probably won’t do it again next year.

I find that I parent differently when parents are around.

And I don’t like that.

But the love and I did a night in Atlantic City and remembered that we are funky in love.

At least for a night.

And it was good.

And I would definitely do that again.

And we came home to a normal that was Technicolor.  As we all tried to readjust to the air here.

And we had a couple of intense days and nights of…adjustment.

And then we gradually returned to normal.  And life lapsed back in to the constant hum that is our routine.

And then we found out that we had been robbed while away.

And we have been dealing with what happened, how it happened, and what was taken for several days now.

And unfortunately due to what was taken, we will be dealing for many months to come.

And it makes me sad and tired.  And angry and hyper.  And sad and tired. And…

Well it makes me want to trust less, connect less and protect ourselves more.

And that…well that just won’t happen.

Because…well.

Caution is good.

But trust is something that I actually believe should be given until someone has done something to prove otherwise.

I have seen wonderful things happen with people who reach out and connect with people who shouldn’t really be trusted.

And I know that some people will scoff at that.  But I WANT to believe the best of everyone.

I want to feel that the world is inhabited by mostly good people.

Or…well…I just don’t see the point.

And I am not a naive person. (although I sound like it here, granted)

And the truth is that we left ourselves open to this in an effort to give something to someone who needed a chance.

And he betrayed us.  And he betrayed that trust.

And so we are changing our locks, talking to the police, and making sure we are more cautious.

But we will still be trusting.

I refuse to be otherwise.

No matter how tempting it is at the moment.
